Christopher Cox, founder of Cox Architecture, has over 20 years post qualification experience in the architectural environment.
Chris's architectural journey started in London working for three of the most renowned practices in the field. This term offered a team role towards developing some of the city's most iconic landmarks. Major refurbishment projects in the commercial and government sector, together with retail and hotel newbuilds, formed the foundation to Chris's career.
A move to Bedfordshire and subsequently smaller practices provided an insight into residential developments within the Home Counties and the opportunity to work within other sectors such as schools, care homes, industrial units as well as continuing with retail projects.
In recent years Chris has dedicated his skillset to designing both newbuild and conversion/refurbishment projects for several Cambridge Colleges, many of which are Grade I listed buildings that consequently require a close working relationship with Conservation Officers and English Heritage alike. These projects predominantly offered student accomodation, conference facilities, as well as a music studio and a state of the art rowing tank.
Cox Architecture is a small but growing, vibrant practice that brings a wealth of individual experience to both new and existing clients. We continue to showcase a varied portfolio. Commissions to date include domestic extensions/conversions, bespoke houses and small to medium density housing developments.
We offer our services as individual products that enables us to take your project forward at any stage, be it from the very first steps or inheriting an existing scheme and seeing it through to completion. We are happy to meet and run through your ideas whilst offering some initial advice. There is no obligation to commit to a full design service, we can simply explore the options available and bring to the forefront the true potential of your project.
Once the concept is agreed, we prepare and submit the relevant planning drawings and supporting documents required by the Local Authority for approval. For projects within conservation areas, we put forward the requisite Design & Access Statement. Whether you are a property owner or developer we will guide you through the planning process, highlighting potential constraints and the best way to overcome them.
At Cox Architecture, we believe in striking that balance between form and function. Any concept may be aesthetically pleasing but can often prove to be impractical if the appearance compromises its use. Equally an approach that lends time purely to a concept's functionality is likely to deliver uninspiring results. The hallmark to any good design is understanding the importance of both criteria.
We pride ourselves on the attention to detail and apply the same methodical approach to every aspect of the design whether that may be a visible attribute or the technical process.
Without clients there are no projects, which is why we are keen to take on board our client's needs, aspirations and budget. We like to encourage our client's input and work closely to ensure that the brief is executed to everyone's expectations.
At Cox Architecture we take pride and satisfaction in knowing that we played a vital role towards turning that initial vision into a reality. We therefore encourage our clients to offer feedback of their experience.
